TerraGIT soon will feature World Scenery V2.1

Marvin (Douglas Adams' The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy ) wrote:In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

After several tests, lots of scripts, and a few modification into the terragear routines, we have requested Marvin (an ubuntu-based computer) to build the World Scenery again, for terraGIT.

Features

  • Full New OSM coastlines worldwide: For more accurate landmasses (specially noticeably in islands or in seashores/lakeshores)
  • WorldWide Airports specifications Apt 10.50 (Released by Xplane on Sept 1st, 2016): For more advanced airport layouts worlwide. More than 6000 airports will feature better layouts compared to the last World Scenery version 2.0 released 3 years ago and distributed with terrasunk
  • Hopefully No airport will feature underground or underwater. (many airports suffered from this bug in WS 2.0)
  • v0 landclasses Worldwide, except noted otherwise
  • OSM main roads (primary, secondary, tertiary, trunks and its links), Worldwide
  • OSM railroads complete
  • Improved Lake, Lagoon, Rivers, and Waterstreams landclasses for a more accurate and complete water-system Worldwide, for improved VFR navigation, and to follow rivers and streams.
  • Corine Land-classes for All Europe
  • Some regions with customized Landclasses, previously released with terraGIT (and the correct custom Landclass now build for St_Marteen's TNCM)
  • TerraGIT complete World download will be some less than half its current content, and it will have a significant improvement in frame rates

Marvin is currently using his World-sized brain to compute this data. Let's wish him some Luck :D

Nice news, that means we don't need to request new layouts (except newer ones) because are already generated to date?

Good luck Marvin

And thanks Jwocky for supporting this forum and also now the PC for terrain generation.

If something, this is probably one of those things that do not mean.
It has many many more advantages but this one hardly.

In fact, on the contrary, the advantage now is that when I reconstruct an updated layout (locally), I can succesfully do so without leaving tile boundaries marks :D

X-PLANE default apt.dat sometimes ships with a layout that is not the best existent. PHNL is an example. The test is whether I can succesfully switch the layout for the more advanced one, but leaving no scar in the implanting are in the planet (nor loosing airports, or creating any sort of additional artifacts)

In other words: a really updateable world.

As the World Regeneration progresses....

Now we have Rio de Janeiro fully reconstructed and alive

Code: Select all

git pull
git submodule sync
install/tile w050s30

The newly reconstructed Rio includes new apt.dat layouts 10.50 for several airports in the area, most notably both Galeao (SBGL) and Garulos (SBRJ).
It also re-established several airports and particularly helipads that were bug-out in the statto reconstruction.

I have requested Stato for the landclasses file, under the provissions of making source files available for a GPL released software to no avail. :S
His lack of responsiveness is potentially a big gap in following the GPL letter. But for now, the openSourced landclasses available don't really look so bad :D

Is this still a goal? I'm really looking forward to this.

It is progressing nicely, actually.

Looks awesome! This regeneration, Müller objects and mine, Rio seems a nice developed location to fly!

well the problem is, it currently does not look awesome. There are critical errors worldwide, and terragear instead of reporting failure is reporting "Finished Succesfully". I am troubleshooting.

The part related to re-engeneering terraGIT so it is more lean of a download is so far the more successful part.

I've just slightly modify the way terragear works (again).

lets see if that solves this annoying issue
