cd terraGIT
install/Japan


and then use terraGIT repository as your scenery package (ie)

Hi All

It works!!

Updating terraGIT to contain the latest development by Kansai was a doable task, not necessarily VERY easy, but as a proof of concept I can say, it works. Wonderfully.


terraGIT initially contained the scenery as available via Terrasync. For Kansai:

Before the update the stand-alone FGMEMBERS RJBB scenery was fixed for small bugs, and osm road and buildings made available by default.
Finally The moment of true:

The terraGIT update took all changes, including an instant gratification new layout, all new buildings (no need to reformat and prepare obstinately for scenery databases), Jetway and groundnet files available (which cant happen via terrasync, also), and osm content also displayed properly by default!

It was total victory in terms of updating our beloved FlightGear scenery, and with instant gratification.

Note:

One of the big arguments about this method by the core devs is that patching makes intersections that are ugly and dephased on terrain.
I argued that to be untrue. The only problem I currently have is the lack of proper landclasses (courtesy of Martin!)

Except that, if constructed and patched properly the boundaries are almost seamless and certainly represent a minor glitch compared to other wholes, underground runways, and flooded airports that could be fixed readily with the terraGIT method.
It is a much much much lesser evil

(besides I have on my hard-drive a v0 class shapefile layers!)

See the boundaries of the tiles of Kansai in mountaineous terrain, and how the elevation profile does not change majorly, and see how using the correct shapefiles, the boundary is most likely invisible
