Taking Splash Screens to a Whole New Level!

Postby SkyBoat » Wed Dec 02, 2015 10:29 pm

Hello there all Free Flight members,

We're launching a new topic just for Splash Screens. This will be the category for you to work on developing your splash screen with others, solicit advice on a screen you are working on, or showcase a new splash screen you have just completed.

The reason we are launching this category is we'd like to take splash screens to a whole new creative level, beyond that of just a screen shot of the aircraft and its name.

Take a look at this great splash screen for the B-29 Superfortress done by IAHM-COL:

Image

And here is another for the DC-8-63 screaming across the Golden Gate bridge at an altitude that would cost the pilots their licenses!!

Image

This is JWocky's infamous Focke-Wulf 200 "Condor" in its "Scourge of the Atlantic" configuration:

These are just three examples of what can be done with a splash screen, to make it more dramatic and inviting.

So have fun and let the splash screens begin!

MIG29pilot is Awarded the MD-10 Splash Screen!

Postby SkyBoat » Wed Dec 02, 2015 10:44 pm

! am very pleased to announce that the new MD-10 splash screen is awarded to MIG29pilot. I issued him a pretty steep challenge to get the commission and he rose to the occasion and was a very good sport about it.

Congratulations!

Check back to this thread as we go through the process of refining the splash screen. It's gonna be great!

I must say that I do not like non-FligtGear pictures being used.
Otherwise, lovely work.

Ah, well, sometimes.
But I feel there should be at least one FlightGear screenshot in the random collection.

speaking of a simplicity that goes beyond your wildest dream...

(and simplicity always goes a long way!)

I was wondering why the image was taking a long time to download!

Yeah, I was wondering where the rest of the splash faded off to. :?

You know if you can find an appropriate Wiki page on the aircraft you might find a GPL approved image for your splash. Some of my WWI kites have period Wiki splash images, I think they capture the grainy, gritty feel of most WWI historical films and photos.

@Beagle Pup 160-- I was certain this splash screen was a historical photograph of the BP-160 taking off from my home town, Foggy Bottom Int'l or otherwise known as KEUG, Mahlon Sweet Municipal Airport, Eugene Oregon. It's a little known fact that there is a Category XXXIX Landing Protocol for KEUG's fog: that is zero visibility all the way up to the baggage carousel inside the terminal.
