Age demographic of FGMembers

Postby bomber » Thu Jun 02, 2016 3:02 pm

After having a longish PM conversation, only right at the end did it become apparent that the other party had my age incorrect.... like 40 years out.

So was wondering just what the spread of age using FGmembers actually was.... are we predominently disenfranchised teenagers or something else ?

The ones they call leaders:
Skyboat, IAHM-COL, and JWocky: I am the young boy, I am 35.
Skyboat and Jwocky are closer to the 50's than any other number around.

On the other hand we are a vibrant community, and we have supported lots of young blood. We believe those "disenfranchised teenagers" have many advantages, that comes along with their more juvenile behavior. Let's firstly say; computers are more awkward for us. I got my first computer when I was 16. Way past neuronal development, and when intelligence and learning skills halt. (think new language acquisition). For those millenials, the computer was an accessory at home the day they first breastfed. Not a surprising machine full of noise, with orange chars on a black screen, and running "DOS>" arriving home when you are already an adolescent splitting your time on other social activities, school, and what-else. So they are more computer-skilled.
they bring ideas, change and energy. They are eager to learn. They want to be the leaders of the future.

Also, they have more time in their hands. One thing is being behind a high-school homework. Other, being responsible of a part of a research group.

Young people are usually more interested in simulators, like flightgear.

I think those youngsters have lots of great stuff to learn from the project; but more interestingly, a lot to give to it. Including ideas, time, and interest. Teenagers, can be noisy, but they are energetic, dynamic, intelligent, and well guided, they become greater men/women.

If we gave everybody in the World free software today, but we failed to teach them about the four freedoms, five years from now, would they still have it?

Hey, don't we have more oldies here? The young ones are winning this "contest", and might just start a mutiny. :-) :-)

Kind regards, Vincent

I was actually choosing for 10-20, cause thats about my age. But I thought we may also need someone who can manage in different situations. But there is also the cause that 10-20 are always ready to contribute. Unlike 20-30 as they become more engaged in RL.

P.S. Just my opinion
