As a user, why do you care what licence the content is under ?

Please do not use us to promote this nonsense.
As I'm sure you "forgot" to mention - we have always stated that it will not be in FGADDON until its ready. There are no license problems anywhere.

At the end of the day what we all want is for ourselves and others to fly the best possible plane

So is GPL an enabler or a hindrance ?

This is interesting and I need to think about it.

As a user:
I can break it. I can fix it. I can do anything with it basically.

I think it benefits users. More so the users that are starting to become developers.

As a developer:
I have no strong feelings either way.

And just as myself:
I would much prefer any license prohibiting commercial resale.

There are many licence alternatives out there. There are the most restrictive varieties. There are those that make it a crime to install software in more than one computer. There are those that limit kind of usage. There are those that include pervasive user agreements. The freedoms granted to the user by the GPL are unmatchable. As a user of software, I am most glad of GPL software availability.

PS: As for the last legoboy's comment, I really don't have any qualms about reselling of GPL material. In every case where I know of the GPL content being available freely somewhere, I found most people obtain the material at not cost. Sometimes, people agreed to pay transactional fees with other goals in mind: ie, service and support (I am thinking here, per example, in certain paid linux distros).

If we gave everybody in the World free software today, but we failed to teach them about the four freedoms, five years from now, would they still have it?

You're not a user if you're breaking it... you're a moder, a would be developer.

And as this fledgling developer, how does GPL have any benefits over CC ?... or for that matter any more restrictive licence that allows you to modify as long as it remains on your Hard drive ?
