I don't know.

Unofficial Translation -- IH-COL

Medellin, November 30th, 2016

Dear compa~eros:

I found comfort knowing that even on this dark time I have your support. From
every corner of the Country I have received messages of strenght and
accompaniment in this difficult moment of my professional life. Nothing is
left but beforehand to thank -and heartfully- all thy support.

Our labor is so special that today placed me in those circumstances in the
form of a time and a place such that I faced the cruel fact that end in this
impasse.

Compa~eros, for my family and for this work that I value and respect, I can
affirm with absolute certainty that I did all that was humanly possible and
all technically mandated to keep the life of all of these users of the air
transportation, lamentably my efforts were unfruitful for reasons known to all
of you. Today life put me in this not agreeable position of having to
confront the situation of the past 28th, situation that the nature of our work
we are exposed (to live) any day, any work-shift, and this time corresponded to
me, and I reiterate to you who manifested your support to me, that everything I did
on the radio-frequency was to preserve the integrity of the occupants of both
aircrafts mainly and as a consequence, as well the occupants of all other
aircrafts under my responsibility.

Lamentably due to my colleagues Journalists I have found that some ignorant
people that are distant to this task and overall uninformed of the proccedures
threaten my physical integrity and my personal tranquility and thus I have
been analysing solutions to the situation which I am hoping to discuss with
the directives of this entity.

<<A friend is he who knows us, and loves us anyways>> Fr. Jerome Cummings.

With my deepest respect, colleague, and heartfully,

YM

Another strange thing happened in relation to this flight, which may also happen to other flights btw. I understand what happened, but i can only get the information by hearing what people say in English about it. I can not read the Spanish articles. Maybe someone who reads Spanish has heard about it too.

The person who takes in flight plans (named Celia), made several remarks about this flight plan to the person of the airline filing it. Including a remark about a crazy thing: The flying time and endurance time were exactly the same. This means literally that a plan was filed with no reserve fuel whatsoever. Yet somehow she had not the authority to refuse the plan. The airline person who filed it could simply bully her into accepting it. That i find very strange, and worrying for any other flight.

Kind regards, Vincent

Is it a little morbid for me to be trying to configure the Jumbolino as it was in this situation, running out of fuel at what 11000' altitude in a South heading? Were the flaps out and did the pilot have the gear down? I'm trying to figure out what the pilot was thinking here.

FL210 not 11000. circling VOR RNG. 21:55 local time (0:55 UTC), no simulated daytime. Weather with low vis, heavy rain, mist and fog. then performing a full descent to 18000 over the holding pattern on the turn north of the charted pattern, and at heading 350, then 1) engines totally out. 2) Aircraft electric totally out 3) airspeed at 135 KTS, descending vertiginously to reach 9000 ft; flaps down. 0.1nm out of RNG VOR heading 350, correcting 010 and then you are good to go.

I think you will have too low of airspeed, too low altitude, too much drag, and you will see nothing but black on the cockpit and the windshield.

[edit]
Forgot to mention. If you assume the pilot got the last transmission, you also know that the airport is 8.2 nm north of you. Heading somehow around 010 but uncertain how exact this number is.
you have transponder off, and thus there is a limitation on the help you can receive now

I just doubt the quality of our flight models, and much more trust the results when done in a real simulator.

But do as you like, i'll not accuse you of anything like morbidity.

Oh, and thanks for reporting on the ATC woman, Israel. I am happy to see that the authorities are positive. That helps her a lot, in that the attackers get insight in their wrong doing.

Kind regards, Vincent

Yeah I also doubt the Jumbolino is all that FDM accurate.

So the first VOR was reached at 21,000'? I need to open up the map again with navaids on.

There were at least 2 or 3 other aircraft in the immediate vicinity, the Airbus 320 on final, and wasn't there 2 others in descent many more miles out? I know when the fuel emergency is declared she quickly diverts the highest planes on other vectors. One of the other pilots requests a correction for heavy weather in his direction.

The pilot of the LMI flight said he could see the ground from his first VOR position so apparently there was some breaks in the weather?

yes. it was circling FL210 RNG, as charted.

He couldnt have seen the ground, even on clear skies, 9999 vis. It is 21:55 Local time. There's very little artificial light on this area.

Maybe we could find the pertinent metar, but as I know, there was rain, mist/fog, low temperature. Dont know about cloud patterns, but the pilot never got visual of rwy.

OK my mistake, he did say he had visual on the Airbus as he approached the first VOR? I probably shouldn't be discussing this, as I know little about naviads and proper procedures with controlled airspace around airports.
