I'll write down my experience with installing on windows. Maybe useful for someone else.
1) At first fgfs kept crashing on the splash screen. No log written anywhere.
2) Started fgfs from the console. Now i got messages complaining about fg already running
3) After a while i found out that fg left a pid file in my home/.../flightgear.org directory.
4) When the pid was removed fgfs ran.
Is that pid file newly introduced to make things difficult for users, giving them a meaningless crash on the splash?
Anyway, it is up and running now. Some remarks:
- Fgrun works fine except that it is not showing the aircraft splashes. I do not mind that.
- Initializing subsystems at startup takes some 5 times more time with the same aircraft than in the prev version.
- Memory consumption and frame rates seem somewhat the same as in the previous version
- Terrasync seems to work better
The actual reason for the upgrade was that a certain tile would not load in the prev version. Now it does load, so the experiment can be called a success.
Kind regards, Vincent
