A flat plate normalized by its surface area would be around 1.2; however the Cd is for the entire aircraft in which case using the wing surface area to normalize drag force is going to result in a higher value than for the wings alone. And that''s the point I'm making.... you can't apply the ground...

I am not understanding what you meant. Simon calculates moments at run time (Force x Distance) whereas in a standard aero model the forces and moments are measured and normalized either in a wind tunnel, in the air or using CFD. The reference point is clearly important for this and it is important ...

Except for the mass calculations that are applied based on the difference between the reference point and the computed CG - so there must be some correlation between the two - or the two must be set equal.
