Re: Circular runways

This is a dumb idea which has gotten way too much attention from the media and their "aviation experts". Planes are not designed to flare for landing while banking, especially if there is windshear or low visibility. Also imagine what would happen if the runway was to become slippery due t...

Re: The FACCT

1) Go to the footer of the page and click on "Language." 2) I believe that chess.com will provide a more even playing field, because every board will be the same. As such a player will not have an advantage over others based on what client they are using. 3) Chess.com also provides that fe...

Re: The FACCT

I suggest using chess.com instead, as it is browser-based, thus no downloads are necessary. Also, the classical time control is way too long for online chess, I would prefer playing standard blitz (3 min + 2 sec increment). Or we could have two separate tournaments with different time controls. Arou...

Re: Your other Left! (It doesn't happen only to me!)

To put the blame solely on the pilots would be unfair in this situation. It is very clear that there were actually three parties at fault here: 1) the pilots, 2) the controller, 3) the FAA. The root cause of this incident is that LAX was running east flow at the time (departing 6R, 7L and arriving 6...

Think you can handle the pressure? - Introducing OpenTargetGenerator!

After observing FlightGear ATC sessions on many occasions, I have come to the conclusion that many controllers lack basic prioritisation and organisational skills when it comes to controlling a somewhat larger number of aircraft than they are used to. Not an isolated problem, as I've also seen it ha...

Re: USA TOUR Event | SAT DECEMBER 17TH 18:00 - 21:00 UTC

The ATC-pilot interaction is not only a two-way road, but also a learning experience, especially for the pilot. When I control a new pilot for the first time on FG. I can assess right away whether that pilot is willing to learn or not. Most are willing to learn, and when misunderstandings happen, I'...

Re: USA TOUR Event | SAT DECEMBER 17TH 18:00 - 21:00 UTC

@SHM I have quit VATSIM at this time, because it got to the point that it was too much for me to deal with. The problem with the VATSIM pilot ratings is that as you mentioned, they are not compulsory, so there is a really small percentage of pilots that have obtained a rating. And that VATSIM itself...

Re: USA TOUR Event | SAT DECEMBER 17TH 18:00 - 21:00 UTC

For those that don't know me, I have logged over 2000 hours as a VATSIM controller, and the highest rating I've held on the network is senior instructor (I3). Speaking from experience, the notion that VATSIM is a "professional" network is vastly inaccurate. In fact, I would say that the co...
